Dr Joanna Astill - Clinical Psychologist and EMDR Therapist
Joanna is an experienced clinical psychologist, who has worked in both the NHS and private practice, with over 20years experience working in the field of mental health.
Her specialism is adult mental health, and she has extensive experience working with people who have been impacted by trauma and the repercussions of this, including anxiety, depression and relationship problems. She uses a range of approaches to meet the needs of people she works with, including CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, EMDR and Internal Family Systems.
During her work, Joanna realised that the transitions of midlife, and the perimenopause and menopause in particular, was often a precursor for mental health difficulties experienced by the women she was working with. Delving into this area to find out more, Joanna has found a passion for promoting more understanding around the menopause, midlife transitions and supporting people in going through this change so that they can move towards living a fulfilled and meaningful life.
Joanna is Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and is registered to practice by the HCPC. She has been trained in the EMBERS® Menopause CBT Model by Simona Stokes and currently offers appointments both online and in person at her office in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
CBT for Menopause
Our approach to helping women with problems due to menopause is based on a six-stage model, called EMBERS® Menopause CBT Model, which is effective in treating the menopause symptoms, that Simona has developed based on her extensive personal experience working with hundreds of women going through this stage of life.
Our approach towards treating the menopause helps women to learn strategies that can address the many psychological processes that become unbalanced during the menopausal transition. When each of these 6 areas of EMBERS® are addressed, women are able to regain their emotional wellbeing, overcome their difficulties, and enjoy a more fulfilled life.
If you are currently experiencing difficulties due to menopause, contact us and we will help you to use CBT – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – to become CBT – “Confident, Brave and Thriving” again.
