The EMBERS Model - CBT For Menopause

Menopause CBT Clinic have developed a six stage model, called EMBERS™, which consists of proven strategies derived from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to address the processes that can become imbalanced during the menopausal transition. The name of the model – EMBERS – is an acronym of the 6 areas that when addressed, can help you regain emotional wellbeing and enjoy a more fulfilled life. All those who attend our clinic or undergo therapy with me will have these stages at the heart of every session and our non-hormonal menopause treatment aims to improve overall psychological wellbeing and day-to-day functioning.

These areas are:

E

Enable your sleep – Enable your sleep – understand the role sleep has in our overall physical and mental health.  We can help improve the quantity and quality of your sleep in spite of the hormonal imbalance that might be causing it. Treating menopause symptoms using CBT talking therapy can help us to develop strategies to address that make falling asleep easier and that can be used to overpower the sleep loss that our bodies so often experience during this transitional period of our lives.

Mind your thoughts – learning how to deal with unhelpful thoughts to help deal with problems such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, irritability and anger amongst other problems. Menopause CBT is centred around understanding why we experience negative thoughts, depression and anxiety and how we can deal and cope with them so that our lives are more fulfilled.

Brave your feelings – develop openness and resilience to the range of feelings we can experience as human beings. Menopause CBT supports you to express your feelings in a safe and non-judgemental space and can help you learn strategies to cope with difficult emotions like anxiety, irritability, anger, sadness, which are common feelings experienced during the menopausal transition.

Embrace your purpose – we can help you connect with what matters most to you, and help you develop a sense of direction in life. Sometimes the menopause can leave you feeling hopeless, overwhelmed and unmotivated both physically and mentally. Our treatment for the menopause helps you to realise your potential and embrace this part of your life so that you can feel better and achieve your goals.

Resolve in your actions (behaviours) –learn strategies to increase your motivation and commitment to stay on course with the actions you want to take and achieve your goals in life. CBT for menopause helps you to understand your underlying thoughts and feelings which drive behaviour so that you can be more aware of how to act upon them in the most constructive manner.

Sustain and Support – We can help with strategies to maintain the progress you make with us, whilst also helping you to reach out and connect with other women to gain further support and stay on course with your bright future.

The EMBERS® Menopause CBT Model is based on a blend of third wave CBT approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Emotion Efficacy Therapy (EET).

The EMBERS® Menopause CBT Model aims to teach strategies that will help you manage the most common psychological features associated with the menopausal transition, and flourish in life.
