  •  During all your years of training, were you ever taught about the powerful link between sex hormones and mental health?
  •  Were you taught about how peri/menopause impacts women's mental health and day-to-day functioning?
  •  Were you trained to adapt your assessments, formulation and therapeutic skills specifically for women going through

If you’re like most clinicians, the answer is "NO". And that means you may be missing vital cues in your work with midlife women, cues that could make the difference between a good intervention and a life-changing one.

 Now imagine the opposite…

  • What if you had the knowledge and tools to confidently support women through menopause?
  • What if you could adapt your therapeutic skills with a proven framework, instead of guesswork?
  • What if you could become recognised as a trusted specialist in menopause-informed psychological care?

That’s exactly what EMBERS® Professional Training Programme makes possible.

The Menopause CBT Clinic® has developed a psychological framework called EMBERS®, which is built upon the strong evidence-based principles of CBT.

CBT is endorsed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines (NICE), Royal College of GPs and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) as the ‘go to’ talking therapy for dealing with the emotional difficulties related to the menopausal transition.

EMBERS® Menopause-Informed CBT Model is a non-hormonal, six-stage psychological framework which informs the delivery of a psychological treatment for women experiencing emotional difficulties caused by the menopausal transition. The name EMBERS® is an acronym for 6 areas that when addressed, women can start regaining their emotional wellbeing and enjoy a more fulfilled life.

The foundation of the EMBERS® model rests upon a comprehensive framework that incorporates evidence-based principles from third wave CBT approaches and behavioural science. The model is underpinned by a bio-psycho-sociocultural understanding of human functioning and a neuroscientific comprehension of how menopause impacts on women’s brain and their mind.

EMBERS® endeavours to address the three dimensions of human functioning: body, mind and the relationship with ourselves, others and the world. Its objective is to assist women to learn strategies to restore balance within the body and mind, while addressing challenges related to self-identity during the peri/menopausal period.

Excellent session! I very hope I can join the training in the EMBERS model. Simona presented as being incredibly knowledgeable and caring. She delivered the information in an accessible way, quite a challenge for the volume of areas to cover. Thank you!

Suzanne
CBT Therapist

I’m Simona Stokes, a Counselling Psychologist with 25+ years’ experience in mental health and founder of the Menopause CBT Clinic®.

My own menopause journey changed everything. It opened my eyes to the fact that traditional therapy approaches simply weren’t enough. Women in this transition need and deserve more - an approach that honours and reflects their lived experience.

That’s why in 2019 I developed the EMBERS® Menopause CBT Framework and coined the term Menopause-Informed Psychological Care to describe a new approach that places the menopausal context at the heart of therapeutic practice.

Since then:

- EMBERS® has been refined into a practical, step-by-step system that bridges CBT, neuroscience, and lifestyle medicine.

- I’ve supported hundreds of women through emotional difficulties like anxiety, low mood, and overwhelm caused by the menopausal transition.

- I’ve trained clinicians across the UK, Europe, North America, and Australia.

- Professionals who’ve trained with me are already applying it in clinical work and seeing powerful results.

"I found the EMBERS® PTP to be an excellent course - the training was well-structured and comprehensive for an introductory training on the menopause and mental health topic."

Lila - Psychotherapist

I can only describe Simona’s EMBERS® Programme as life changing as I came to her at such a low point due to the impact that perimenopause had on my mental health. The positive impact of our sessions has been incredible offering tools and strategies that have allowed me to move past, what has been, one of the worst time in my life.
